August preview

So, August.  August is usually one of the hottest months of the year and this really worries me with the records we’ve already broken in July.  I worry about my wife driving around in her car on these hot days since it doesn’t have working AC any more.

This month also brings a new school year for my son.  A school, a new routine and new challenges.  I am continually amazed at what he accomplishes and look forward to sending him off.

Right around the same time my son starts school, my wife will be celebrating her birthday.  We usually joke that her birthday present from our son is him going back to school so she can regain some sort of sanity.  I don’t have the heart to tell her that her sanity left a long time ago.

This will probably be a hard month financially as we continue to get caught up from a rough year.  We’re close, so very close, to being caught up, but it keeps eluding us.  I’m hoping with two new, better paying jobs we’ll get caught up soon.  I look forward to being ahead of the game at some point in the distant future.  I think this is worth a post of it’s own in the near future.

Nerd-wise, I’m hoping to get my netboot setup completed.  Already, I can boot several linux live-CDs as well as a Windows live setup.  I’m working on getting XBMC (more precisely XBMCbuntu, a horrible name) running using their live CD.  The final step to it all will be allowing for persistent storage on the NFS server to allow for customization of each box without the need of a USB stick or hard drive present.  If I have enough funding, I’m also planning on migrating my PogoPlug to a SATA drive this month and setup a permanent home for proper SNMP monitoring.

It’ll be an interesting month and I’m looking forward to surviving it.  🙂
