"Please try again"

It’s stupid, but I’ve been using bottle caps to gage my current state of affairs.  True story.

I’m a big fan of Diet Dr. Pepper.  I’ve been known to pick up a liter on my way to work at the start of a day or after lunch.  For the past few months, most cap that I opened was a winner of another 1 liter bottle.  I was able to keep a streak of at least 3 free sodas going for a while.  And despite my state of affairs or state of mind, it put the idea in my mind that everything was going alright.

For the past month though, every bottle has read “Please try again”.    For someone who held onto the belief that as long as his luck gave him free soda, losing repeatedly damages the ego.  At the same time, our state has considerably worsened.  If we haven’t hit the point of no return, I can’t imagine that it would be very far off.

Damn Diet Dr. Pepper.   I’m going back to using my trusty Magic 8 Ball.

On a different, yet vaguely related note, I found out that Wal-Mart has teamed up with Gazelle.com to buy used electronics for cash.  (The Wal-Mart version offers a pre-paid Visa card.)  My now unused Blackberry is worth $116.   Tie that in with iPodMeister giving customers iPods for ${x} dvds, there’s a good way to clear my inventory of accumulated electronic junk and get stuff that I want.

Tomorrow, I think I’m going to draft a letter to Dr. Pepper begging them for a free soda to help improve my morale.  😛
